It's almost time for us to say adios to the 16th Spanish Film Festival, but not without giving our Sydney amigos one last chance to soak up the best of this year's festival. Additional sessions will then run from this Thursday until Sunday 7 July, at both Palace Verona and Chauvel Cinema, with festival favourites including the brilliant documentary THE MEXICAN SUITCASE - about the discovery of thousands of lost negatives photographed during the Spanish Civil War; festival hit CARMINA OR BLOW UP - crass, vulgar & totally hilarious; and CLANDESTINE CHILDHOOD - a powerful & moving look at the politically oppressed South America of the 1970s.

A smash-hit at this year's festival, A GUN IN EACH HAND kicks off its theatrical release in Australia this Thursday. Be sure to catch this festival gem on the big screen!

Don't miss your chance to see the very best of this year's festival, with extra sessions scheduled by popular demand in Melbourne and Canberra. We've listened to your requests, and are excited to bring you one last chance to catch some festival favourites - from the exhilarating thriller THE BODY (from the producers of The Orphanage), to Antonia San Juan's infectiously energetic gem THE SUMMER SIDE, to the stunning THE ARTIST AND THE MODEL (from Oscar winning director Fernanda Trueba) about an ageing artist and his muse. Additional sessions will run from Thursday 27 to Sunday 30 June at Palace Cinema Como, Kino Cinemas, Palace Westgarth and Palace Electric.

Don't miss your chance to see a Luis Buñuel masterpiece on the big screen. Join us in closing this year's festival with a nod to the revered Spanish director who changed the landscape of cinema forever, with a special screening of Tristana, starring Catherine Deneuve.

Orphaned as a young woman, Tristana (Deneuve) is taken in by well-respected, yet impoverished aristocrat Don Lope (Fernando Rey). It’s not long before Tristana’s entry into his life awakens desires and he takes advantage of her vulnerable situation, seducing her into a twisted and possesive relationship.

Closing Night events in all cities will feature the only festival screenings of this tour de force classic. All screenings will be preceded by sangria upon arrival!

The festival comes to a close in Brisbane and Adelaide this Sunday 23 June, with a special screening of Luis Buñuel's surrealist masterpiece TRISTANA, starring Catherine Deneuve (more info here).

Missed out on some of the most talked-about films? We've scheduled some extra sessions by popular demand in Brisbane and Adelaide, including the side-splittingly hilarious CARMINA OR BLOW UP, Oscar winner Fernando Trueba's exquisite THE ARTIST THE MODEL, and our Opening Night sensation A GUN IN EACH HAND. Additional sessions have been scheduled as follows:

As patron I am thrilled to welcome you to the 16th year of the Spanish Film Festival. Over the course of time I have been patron it has been so exciting to see the festival grow from strength to strength with Palace Cinemas. In 2013 I am particularly thrilled that the festival has expanded to take in Palace locations in Canberra and Byron Bay, along with Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide. Now so many more people will be able to experience the excellence of contemporary Spanish-language films!
